Pharmacological properties The drug reduces the excitability of the central nervous system. The action is caused by the content of essential oil, most of which are complex ether of alcohol of boar and isovaleric acid. Sedative properties also have valepotria and alkaloids - Valerin and Khoinin. The sedative effect is manifested slowly, but quite stable. Valerianic acid and valepotria have a weak antispasmodic effect.
