for medical use of the medicinal product
BENZYL BENZOATE
Storage:active substance: benzylbenzoate;
1 g of cream contains medical benzyl benzoate - 250 mg;
excipients: cetostearyl alcohol (type A) emulsified, propylene glycol, purified water.

Medicinal form.Cream.
Main physical and chemical properties: white cream with a weak specific smell.

Pharmacotherapeutic group.Agents acting on ectoparasites, including scabies mites. ATX code P03A X01.

Pharmacological properties.
Pharmacodynamics.
Benzyl benzoate cream has an acaricidal effect against various types of ticks, including scabies ticks (Acanis scabiei) and ticks of the genus Demodex, and shows anti-pediculosis activity. Has a toxic effect on all types of lice (death of lice occurs after 2-5 hours, ticks - after 7-32 minutes). Penetrates through the chitinous cover and accumulates in the body of the tick in toxic concentrations. Causes the death of larvae and adults of scabies mites; does not affect eggs.
Pharmacokinetics.
With local application, benzyl benzoate practically does not enter the systemic bloodstream.

Indication.Treatment of scabies, pediculosis.

Contraindication.Hypersensitivity to benzyl benzoate or other components of the drug. Skin damage, including pustular skin diseases.

Interaction with other medicinal products and other types of interactions.Pharmacological interaction of Benzylbenzoate cream with other drugs has not been detected, however, like all antiparasitic drugs, the drug is not recommended to be used simultaneously with other drugs for external use. Local or systemic use of corticosteroids can contribute to the disappearance or reduction of the manifestation of some symptoms (itching, hyperemia) with the preservation of the invasion, therefore, during the period of treatment with Benzylbenzoate cream, the use of such drugs should be avoided.


Features of application.Before starting the treatment, it is advisable for the patient to take a hot shower to mechanically remove ticks from the surface of the skin, as well as to loosen the surface layer of the epidermis (to facilitate the penetration of the drug). After each hand wash, they must be treated again. Be sure to treat underwear and bed linen, outerwear and hats.
It is necessary to avoid getting the cream into the eyes and mucous membranes. In case of accidental ingestion of the drug:
– in the eyes: rinse thoroughly with water or 1% sodium bicarbonate solution; treatment is symptomatic;
– in the mouth: rinse the mouth with water or a warm 2% solution of sodium bicarbonate;
- in the stomach: in case of accidental ingestion of the drug, you should immediately consult a doctor.
After completing the course of treatment, a doctor's supervision is necessary for 2 weeks (and in case of complications - even more).
Treatment of patients in the same outbreak, as well as contact persons, should be carried out simultaneously.
Complications in the form of eczema should be treated simultaneously with scabies and continue after the latter is eliminated.

Use during pregnancy or breastfeeding.
There are no data on the use of Benzylbenzoate cream during pregnancy, so it is not recommended to use the drug in this category of patients.
The drug should not be used immediately before breastfeeding.

The ability to influence the speed of reaction when driving vehicles or other mechanisms.
The drug does not affect the ability to drive vehicles and work with complex mechanisms.

Method of application and dosage.Apply Benzylbenzoate cream locally.
10–15 g of cream is applied at one time. When treating scabies, before using the drug, patients should take a hot shower with soap to remove scales and crusts, thoroughly wash off the soap and dry with a towel. First, apply the cream on the palms, hands, then on all other parts of the body, sequentially from top to bottom (the cream should not be applied to the face and mucous membranes). Finally, apply the cream to the legs, feet and between the toes. In places with delicate skin (inguinal area, genitals, mammary glands), as well as in case of eczema, dermatitis, the cream should be carefully applied, not rubbed.
After treatment, hands should not be washed for 3 hours. In some cases, after the applied cream has dried (usually after 1 hour), it is recommended to apply a second layer of the drug. After finishing the treatment, the patient should put on clean underwear, clothes, and change the bedding. After 24–48 hours, patients should take a shower and change their underwear and bedding again.
Apply the cream to the skin 4 times within 2 weeks with an interval of 3-4 days. An average of 60–90 g of cream is used for a course of treatment.
When treating scabies in children aged 3 to 5 years, Benzylbenzoate cream should be diluted with warm boiled water (30-35 °C) in a ratio of 1:1 immediately before use and mixed until a homogeneous emulsion is formed. Treatment, as a rule, should be carried out without a preliminary warm bath 2 times with an interval of 12 hours.

When treating Norwegian scabies before applying Benzylbenzoate cream it is necessary to first clean the skin from crusts with the help of keratolytic agents. The duration of the treatment course is determined by the dynamics of cleaning the skin, stopping the inflammatory process, stopping itching.

In the treatment of pediculosis, apply the drug to the hair and scalp, lightly rubbing it into the skin; tie the head with a handkerchief. After 30 minutes, wash off the preparation with running water and rinse the hair with a warm 5% vinegar solution. After the described procedure, wash the hair with soap or shampoo and comb with a frequent comb to remove nits. For pubic pediculosis, rub the cream into the skin of the pubis, abdomen, inguinal folds, and inner thighs. The effectiveness of the treatment is determined after a day and, if necessary, the procedure is repeated.

Children.
Do not use the drug for children under 3 years of age.

Overdose.In case of an overdose, the manifestation of side effects, such as contact dermatitis, may increase.
If the cream is accidentally swallowed or a very large amount is applied, the following are possible: increased side effects of the drug, contact dermatitis, sudden loss of consciousness, stimulation of the central nervous system (convulsions) and urinary retention.
Treatment is symptomatic.
The skin must be cleaned from the cream. When swallowing the cream, it is necessary to wash the stomach, the treatment is symptomatic. If necessary, apply anticonvulsants.
In case of any undesirable reaction at the place of application of the drug, it must be washed with soap and water.

Adverse reactions.When applying the drug, a tingling, burning sensation may occur, which disappears with further application of the cream. In people with sensitive skin, local skin reactions are possible, including burning or itching, redness or dryness of the skin area treated with the drug, as well as allergic reactions, including skin rashes, swelling. If the above side effects do not disappear on their own, the use of the drug should be stopped. The sensitivity of the skin was especially increased on the damaged areas and genitals. Contact dermatitis can sometimes occur.
The drug contains propylene glycol, which can cause skin irritation.

Expiration date.3 years.
Do not use the drug after the expiration date indicated on the package.

Storage conditions.Store in a place inaccessible to children at a temperature not higher than 25 °C.
